Territórioscópio
A graphic, playful artifact for territorial modelling with children.
A pedagogical object developed within the MOPLAND project — A Co-construction Conceptual Model for Participatory Land-Use Modelling in Spatial Planning — in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences (CICS.NOVA) of the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University Lisbon, for an activity run with the School Libraries Network at Escola Básica n.º 2 de Rio de Mouro. Territórioscópio is a graphic and playful artifact conceived for use in territorial modelling workshops with children, fostering spatial cognition and the critical reading of the urban territory.
Composed of illustrations, narrative instructions and elements of symbolic interaction, this physical object is used in territorial-education dynamics to help children express urban problems and solutions, grounded in the principles of the right to the city, spatial justice and the educating city.
Embedded in living-lab contexts and community-engagement practices, Territórioscópio makes it possible to observe how children build spatial knowledge and contribute to scenarios of urban transformation.
